type='text'>thinking ahead

i restarted my investment in my TSP (thrift savings plan) account today. i forgot that i'd put it on hiatus during a tight time and hadn't restarted it. it's a retirement plan that the navy offers us and is probably a good idea in general. i'd sold off my sharebuilder account too...so now i'm thinking about IRAs. pretty much, i'm thinking that unless i find myself a woman or have a kid or something life-changing like that, i'm pretty sure i'll wind up retiring from the navy; especially with how well my career is doing at this point. i mean, evaluations are right around the corner, and it's looking really good for me to be able to take the E-6 test this september instead of next, and practically guaranteed that i'll make it before the end of my first enlistment.
then, there's also the stipulation that if i want my MGIB bennys, i've got to re-enlist. something that wasn't immediately obvious when i was signing all the original papers was that since i'm taking the college loan repayment program and MGIB...i get the loans paid this enlistment, and if i want the MGIB (which i've already paid into), i would get that after my second enlistment.
now, the only thing preventing this from totally boning me is that my 6 years is technically 4 years + a 2 year extension. so, if i were to re-up, they would drop the extension and i would be left with whatever amount of time i choose to re-enlist for, which would probably be 4 years. and i might get a decent bonus by that time, but i doubt it. there's all sorts of factors that go into determining bonus size...like paygrade at time of re-enlistment, how critical your NEC (job) is, how long you've been in, how long you're re-enlisting for, and how many times you've re-enlisted before.
*sigh*
time to be a big boy. if i stick with this plan tho, i'm definitely going to re-enlist overseas so the bonus will be tax-free. gotta take everything i can get, right?
durka durka

so here i sit in the armory on yet another duty day. we're back in six sections now that everyone's back, but it happens that my normal section's got it today...which is better than having it on saturday. and i don't really have any work left for the week, so i've pretty much just been fucking off the whole day...watched the first few episodes of Weeds on my iPhone. they're pretty good. i might just go and buy the whole season and season 2 now. well, after we get paid again. i've got plenty of credit available, but little cash at the moment due to double-paying on a bill, christmas spending, driving to STL and back, and just that the first half of the month sucks for me if i go nuts during the second half, since almost all my bills are due in the first part.
but that fat tax return is right around the corner...my housing allowance is non-taxable, so that's like a third of my income from last year, and once i figure out how to get credit for the interest on my house, my return should be pretty tidy. maybe i'll take it to the free specialist services the navy provides this year instead of just doing it online like i normally do.
anyway...time to take a nap. gotta be back up about 2am and then it's into the workday for me. good thing i'm used to only a few hours sleep.
betrayal?

well, i've realized what one of my big problems with what's been going on with cortney is - she's been trying to keep me and everything we'd been doing a big secret. she and i had been spending hours every day on the phone and im'ing each other for the last few months, but tried to keep everyone from knowing about it, or at least what was actually happening. and so, if she is willing to tell me she loves me but keep me a secret from everyone, who is she hiding from me? after the events from early last year i already didn't have a lot of trust left for her, and she is obviously still trying to hide me/lie about what went on between us. and so, given the distance between us, and that she isn't willing to make the trip out to see me (which cuts the amount of times in a year we'd be able to see each other at least in half), even with her boys coming, how am i supposed to consider talking to her worthwhile?
if this was just a fuckbuddy type of relationship i wouldn't be upset over it. but one doesn't spend hours every day talking to their fuckbuddy about everything that's going on with them throughout the day. when one spends that amount of time with someone and develops feelings for them and can tell each other they love each other, that is actually what one calls a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, even with the distance. and so when i title this post betrayal i don't think it's being so melodramatic as much as honest. with nothing more to go on than our phone conversations, i allowed myself to trust her more, especially once she started telling me she loved me again, b/c why would someone lie about loving me? and then just throw away what is possibly their last chance to see them?
anyway, i've got this week left in port...then we're underway for the rest of the month, back for a couple weeks, and then it's deployment again. going around the Horn of Africa if i haven't mentioned before. so there's Emerald Shellback in my future. also there's a lot of action lately, not only off of Africa, but in the Strait of Hormuz (the only entrance/exit to the Gulf) with the iranians.
deployment might be more interesting than last year...
updatery

since i find myself stuck in the armory for another duty day, i figure i might as well continue the blog a little more...it's what it's there for, right?
so i got the nice new d-link router. it's a bit of awesome. probably half the size or less of the netgear, and installing was a breeze. the advanced settings inside it were pretty complex...a lot of the wireless stuff was way over my head, so, i'm impressed. i was going to run cat-5 through the house too, since i picked up a switch at the same time, but apparently i had half as much cable as i thought. so, i need to pick some up, or get some from a buddy that has a whole spool of it leftover (but he's out in va beach and working, so he's harder to get a hold of than when he was literally right up the street from me and unemployed). so the wired house project has hit another snag...temporarily.
i did get the digital thermostat and CO/Smoke detector installed the other day tho, as well as fixing the roommate's door so it'll shut all the way. so home improvements *are* happening.
friday i had a couple of friends over since we got off work nice and early, and we spent most of the day playing rock band. we had a drummer and two guitars going, the guy we're planning on singing for us is still home on leave. we played enough that Guerrero (drums) could barely walk at Sanders' (bass) party later that night. the party which is another story in itself, since a lot of 18-20 yr olds found their way in. supposedly one their dad's even dropped a carload of them off with alcohol. wtf?! i wonder what kind of lies they told their dad for *that* to happen??
and then there's the ex trying to get me to talk to her. i ignored her on im for a few days before asking her for one good reason that i should still talk to her. and i'm still waiting for it. i guess people don't realize just how precious time is to a person when somebody's got to spend half their next year away from everyone.
anyway, time to get back to work. i've got guns to issue and other guns to clean and stow.
wack

alright...i'm pretty confused and disappointed today...which sucks even moreso b/c it's christmas and all...i mean, the gifts and family and everything were good. but i was waiting for a call from the girl to tell me when i could come over and give her her gift...and i got a voicemail from her while i was in the basement with my dad. it just said "what are you doing? i know that was you"
so i have no idea wtf she's talking about. i assume she heard some car with an exhaust leak drive by and thought it was me, but when i called her i got as far as "hey, what's up with that voicemail?" and she hangs up on me! so i call back a couple of times and she won't pick up...so i leave a couple of voicemails trying to explain that i have no idea what's going on...and i try calling a few more times tonight cuz i know she doesn't check her voicemail anyway. so, now i'm just wondering what the hell happened that gypped me out of what was probably my last chance to see her for another year...and now she's mad at me for something that i have no clue about and i've gotta drive back to VA tomorrow wondering what could have happened.
...and i didn't even get to give her her present, which bums me out cuz i'm sure she would've liked it...maybe i'll just drop it off at her place tomorrow with a note on my way to the highway...
after i get my exhaust leak fixed. forgot to mention that my dad and i found my exhaust pipe has rotted all the way through about an inch in front of my muffler while we were installing my new header the other night. so my car went from that nice distinct rumbly sound to sounding like a damn ricer now. and i'm not sure if the exhaust is actually leaving the car, so i've been driving with the window down just in case. ugh. at any rate, i've gotta go to a muffler shop first thing tomorrow and get a new pipe welded on before i start my trip back. fun.
hmm

i've been seeing the girl from last year while i'm back home this time. we've been talking for a while and were really excited to see each other again...so the first night i'm back i stop by her place and hang out with her and her boys. it was awesome. her boys are a lot of fun to play with and we all had a great time just wrestling around on the floor. i actually even felt like i was a part of the little family...so that was really cool. her boys even asked me to come to their school play, but i've gotta spend some time with my own family, right? then last night i went back over just to see her, even tho she was sick, and wound up just rubbing her feet and legs before putting her to bed. i think i'm definitely falling for her again, and now i know that i like her boys too...back to that whole "just happy to be with her" thing...well, we'll see how she feels i guess...i still don't know what she would expect out of me as far as her boys, but if this goes anywhere i guess i'll have to ask...in the meantime i'll just enjoy what i get
<img width='1' height='1' week...*after* approving my leave request for this week and next. and so who gets called in this morning?
the worst part is my part in the team, although essential and central to the whole point of the team, is something that i don't really need much training on. a little refresher? yeah, i could use that. i'll admit that much. but a whole 4 mind-numbing days of sitting in a dark space from 0700-1600 or later???
you know what? my family is out this week to visit me...and i've just *got* to be in at work, because some fucktard with a college degree got picked up as an officer and assigned to my division, and doesn't know enough about what's going on in his division to avoid these complications, despite the fact that he had to sign off on my leave. his ass would have been royally fucked if i were a less-honest person and told them that i was too drunk already to come in, or i was too far out of area to make it back in today.
grapes

are amazing...they taste good as the little juicy globules that we all know...they taste good when left out (or put through a dehydrator) to becoma raisins...but i think i like them most when they go through that divine process that turns them into wine...mmmmm....
so...other news...i guess i'm pretty disappointed with the way things are going with my most-recent ex. we ended it saying that we'd still hang out and be friends and she sent me a message a day or two ago saying that we should hang out and that she'd be free tonight after rugby practice and after work on sunday. well, i've got duty tomorrow, so i can't go out and get crazy tonight without having a really shitty day tomorrow, and after i roll off duty on saturday morning i've got my parents and nephew coming into town to visit and see the house and stuff. so that pretty much rules out sunday. to tell the truth, i really wasn't even expecting her to call tonight after practice. but she did, and went on to say that she wanted to hang out over at the bar she works at so she can talk to her coworkers and the locals.
i'm more than a little put out by this. she knew i had duty, and i told her before she said she wanted to go out to the bar that i've already been drinking at the bowling alley with a friend that just got in from bahrain and didn't really want to drive anywhere else since i started drinking some wine after i got back home. i did tell her that she was more than welcome to join me for some wine for a little while. but it seemed like the plan of "us" hanging out went right out the window.
i dunno where i'm going with this...except that that pretty much blew, since it pretty much told me that i don't matter at all anymore, even though she supposedly wanted to hang out.
seriously, why do i continue to put stock in anything a woman says to me? i think it's b/c i actually have some pretty awesome female friends that i *can* trust...and that screws up my worldview. a small group that i can trust = me thinking i can trust the rest of them = erroneous thinking.
think i figured out it out. now i can go to bed so i can play with guns tomorrow in the armory.
<img width='1' height='1' nothing can be more dead than something else, right? so. it's dead. and i'm unhappy about that, b/c i used the thing for maybe a couple of weeks' worth of playtime total in the last year and a half. hrmph.
so we didn't get underway today after all, but we will tomorrow instead. hopefully we'll still come back on the same day as previously scheduled, or even earlier, since there're people that need to go to a critical school that starts the day we pull in. but early almost never happens. and i've been drinking a new single malt all night, for lack of anything better to do, since it would seem impossible to talk to some people. which is frustrating and sad. and so i will drink some more before bed, since there is still some more to drink...one of these days type='text'>ah sooo

once again, i've left my blog withering and undernourished...much like what happened to my venus fly traps this summer. through no fault of my own, i came back to them after an extensive underway period to find that they pretty much disintegrated under the sunlight and dry summer. my sundew, however, has managed to fluorish and keep itself alive on the gnats (as it's supposed to do) and even has some blooms going on...something i wasn't aware they do. not that i know much about sundews, other than they eat small bugs.
if you've read my myspace blog, you probably caught the one about having an awesome girlfriend for the summer that somewhat recently left me. i guess i'm still dealing with that...i miss her, hanging out and everything. and i'm having trouble even keeping in touch with her, since she's so busy and all. ironically, the ex from back home started talking to me on im the day after k broke up with me...and for whatever reason i started talking to her. *sigh*
i'm kinda lost, i guess. my summer was really too short, what with the way the navy basically took it away, having almost no time in port to spend with k and then her schedule started really picking up right when i finally got some time back on land.
anyway, i'm gonna stop myself here b/c i really do need to go to bed, since we're leaving tomorrow for some more crap. so, if anybody still reads this...well, i guess i'll try to keep up with it. or it'll just become more of a private and forgotten thing. guess it doesn't matter, either way.

looks like things are peachy with the mortgage co., so i'll be moving again this weekend. i've got this shit down to a science. Pete's already moved out, for the most part. just got most of the furniture to move this weekend. i hate that part.
i may even be able to make it out to my 10yr reunion (god i'm an old fucker)...i'll have to check the ship's schedule to make sure we're in-port for it. i'm not sure that we are. and then, do i really want to go? what do i really have in common with those people anymore? i mean, sure, i'll be making a lot less money than most of the people i'd talk to, but i've definitely done more in that amount of time.
so, their clothes might look better, but who's gonna have the better stories?
Me.
speaking of the old days, i'm putting out an APB on one Ian Kelley...nobody seems to know where this guy disappeared to after high school.
other than that...still got a lot of things on my mind, and for once i'm not sure how they'll pan out...i'm also running low on booze...and have no real desire left to quit smoking right now, even tho i really want my lungs to clear out some before i run my PRT (Physical Readiness Test...where we do our situps, pushups and run...it's twice a year)...i'm not depressed...i'm just not happy, despite the house stuff. well, almost time to go eat some curry and watch Heroes...and i'll see what tomorrow brings.

devs

had the future roomy over tonight to hang out for a while and sign his lease with me. also got him immediately addicted to Wii. Nintendo has a real winner there...sure, the games aren't all that advanced graphically or anything, but it's just damn good fun to be able to play games with these controls. they have some airplane games out now that i'm dying to try, but that's going to have to wait til after weds when i close on the house.
apparently i was supposed to have kept $1600 in my bank for closing...either they glossed over that fact when i was signing papers, or i just totally forgot, b/c i've got about half that right now after buying some things that i (at the time) considered quite essential. like a 500GB hard drive, for one example. that's proving to be an issue in Vista itself, but that's another story. ugh. so, i guess the money isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, b/c when i ran the last of my paperwork to the mortgage co. on friday afternoon and reminded them that i get paid on monday, they said it should be fine.
what else...quitting smoking hasn't worked out so well this week...the last couple days i've been smoking more than ever, actually. had a lot of stress going on, what with closing on the house soon, things at work, figuring out how i'm going to move yet again next week (i figured it out - this will be my 5th address in a year now), and certain things that i want to happen, and conversations i've been having.
had fun at the bar last night, at least...my buddy kernen convinced me to come out to a bar on the beach where there's russian waitresses. so, i brushed up on my russian a little bit, i.e. realized how much i've forgotten by not having anyone to practice with, had a bunch of cherry bombs and watched the lightning strikes in the clouds over the water. it was pretty nice, altho not quite enough to clear my mind.
and my friend erica is pregnant again, i found out tonight. she gave me a call and left a message last week, but didn't say anything out of the ordinary. i finally gave her a call back tonight and she told me the news...i found it funny, b/c she'd had certain health things going on that made her worried she wouldn't be able to have kids, and now she's got one that's about 6 mos, i think, and just found out about the next. seems like she's really popping them out to me.
anyway, that's a pretty good update for this week...time to go burn one and finish this vodka ken left me. yummy Chopin...mmmm...it's been a while since i've drank vodka the whole night ;)

nothing much...

so, it turns out irish whiskey is to me as spinach is to popeye...or something like that. that half-hour run at PT the other day was (almost) nothing. it probably would've been nothing if i'd been more disciplined about working out lately. but, i am a lazy fucker who happens to have a lot of hobbies and other timesinks lately. and tonight i discovered we're out of both whiskey and scotch, so i've been drinking some Chopin vodka that was graciously donated by my future roommate, and even educated an old friend from high school about the difference between potato and grain vodkas when she asked how i could stand drinking it on the rocks. for those who don't know, rule of thumb goes: american grain vodka = mix that shit; european potato vodka = no mixer, sip it or put ice in it. if there's interest here, i can go into detail, but i know some of my readers have heard all this before. probably from my own mouth.
also. an interesting question arose tonight...can caring actually hinder/impair a person? looked around on lowes and home depot for different house ideas, primarily looking for deck & porch info...wasted a lot of time there. talked to the woman at the mortgage company so she can talk to the apartment and get rental history...tried to order a 500Gb HDD on newegg b/c they've got some awesome prices on the WD ones right now and found out that my new credit card activation hadn't gone through yet. so i suppose that's good that i found that out and got it fixed b/c i used it to buy gas and a belt sander yesterday. i also made some...hmm...don't really wanna call it progress, but i guess that's the only word for now, towards getting the laptop out of Vista purgatory. the person that emailed me told me i could get the credit back for the license i bought, but if i was going to do what i wanted, i.e., get the installation i have activated, i'd have to call MS's product support line...why, that sounds like a blast! i also need to call columbia house and tell them to fuck off. i denied my selection online back at the beginning of the month like always, but i found a charge from them on my debit card. so, now i'm going to have to return another dvd.
ok, so nothing really exciting, but i AM getting business taken care of. and i actually quit smoking today. went and bought the patches and everything. which might account for why i've been sitting in front of my computer all night not knowing what to do with my hands.

images

sooo...i think the easiest way for people to look at my pics is to go here and do a member search for pkpozzy1292. that way you'll just see all my albums, instead of me sending you invites to all of them. not that i would mind sending you invites, but it seems kinda pointless to clog your boxes like that, yea?

stuff

pics from this week will be linked...soon as i get imagestation all configured and linkable and, well...we finish doing fun things to take pics of! :)

as a warning - i took about 200 photos today. i make no guarantees of quality, but, as always, will provide you with the raw, scary truth of my photography skillz. tonight. had a good loaf of bread come out, altho i think i went a little heavy with the egg-white baste, because that shell kinda split. so when i pulled it out of the oven it made me sorta think of a cockroach or a beetle spreading its wings. the pepperoni pizza rollup i made is quite tasty tho. and i think i got the peanut butter fudge right tonight (had a candy thermometer this time, so it didn't come out all gooey again - also added some chocolate chips, which promptly melted)...mmm...so tasty. i'm thinking about bringing some in to work to share tomorrow. i've actually been losing it's been a long time since i've been a serious student. sure, the navy puts me through "schools" for stuff, but pfeh, it's hardly like a college-level thing. it's maybe something like middle school. type='text'>scotch...tape

i was cleaning out my myspace inbox of old crap, and found an old mesg from C. out of curiosity i clicked on the pic and saw that her profile isn't set to private, and so i clicked around for a couple minutes. and it confirmed everything that i already believed i knew. so now, the only question that remains is why? why would she lie to me? and then after i stop talking to her like it seemed like she wanted, would she email me again after a couple weeks and lie some more? what could she possibly stand to gain from lying to someone that she'd already dumped? this concept is exceedingly foreign to me. i approach things, and i've got nothing to hide. take me as i am. i'm not going to hide anything, but at the same time i've learned that i can't show everything at once, it seems like people get intimidated by that. so it's a progression-type thing. but, i'll always be honest with whomever i choose to pursue a relationship with, and as such i can't understand her actions. it's...disrespectful at best. and so i asked her about it. i don't expect a reply...i almost hope i don't get one, because at this point, i'm sure it will be more of the same. i've come to realize that she is too cowardly for someone like myself. i have no heart for cowards. speak your mind, say your peace and be done with it, the consequences will sort themselves out. walk and talk like you've got a pair, and you'll be surprised at how much better life can be. in short, she doesn't deserve a man of my calibre...not until she grows up some more. i figured it wouldn't be an issue at first, seeing as how she is a single mom and all.
on a cheerier note, i've been in 25mm machine gun school this week, and will be until tuesday. it's going good, and is at least somewhat fun, since there's hands-on stuff involved, and it's a fairly complicated weapon, as machine guns go. so, i don't go to the boat for work, i head out to the dam neck base (altho i still head to the norfolk base to pick up to gunners from my boat before i go to dam neck, so i still wake up ass-early in the morning).
also, we've put together most of the furniture from ikea in the last couple days. all that's really left is to put together the dining table, and find some chairs. ikea was out of the chairs we wanted, and apparently i think, discontinued them because they were sold out. why discontinue something that you're sold out of? obviously people want it and will buy it...
i also got my sound card today, and inkarnate has sound once again. my new keyboard's volume control doesn't seem to be compatible, but i might be able to make it work later, after i poke around when i'm sober. er. ish. it's been a long day, alright?!
hmm...if there was anything else, i'm not remembering it right now...hopefully i've got a good weekend coming up. got some plans and such. altho shamrockfest ahas pretty much fallen through. my cohort and comrade-in-arms, OS2 Gore, has already backed out. and i've got the mid-watch friday night, yet again, so i'll be dog-tired saturday morning, and probably won't want to make the trip to DC. we'll see, tho.
ta for now, my peeps and dawgz
<img width='1' height='1' had some things to take my mind off of "that"...like 25mm machine gun school this week and part of next. and putting furniture together tonight. inevitably, however, there is down-time, and my mind starts to wander, and i get pissed off; in part, because i'm thinking about it again, and partly because of what i think about. it's all very aggravating. i need to go meditate, shower and go to type='text'>weekend duty

sooo...i hate weekend duty. especially when it's a beautiful day out like today. but at least i've been productive. i've already found (and bought) a sound card on newegg that i like and has Vista drivers available. it's also on a little over $30 after a mail-in rebate, so if it doesn't work and i can't find something else to do with it (decorative wall-hanging, perhaps?), at least i'm not out a lot of money. like i would be if i bought a sound blaster Fatal1ty card.
i also got a little maintenance done today, despite my divo's (division officer) best efforts to stymy my craft. i just need to replace some light bulbs down in berthing for the fire marshall report, and my "work" for the day is done. oh, except i've got the 3-8am watch tonight. and i'm about to start working on my qualification for duty master-at-arms (aka duty section sheriff). it's kind of a pain-in-ass watch that nobody likes, but it looks good on the evals. oh, and for those who i haven't talked to in a while - i rocked my advancement test last cycle and made 2nd Class. so i'm e-5 now...kind of a sweet spot in the navy. a little more authority/supervising, but not a whole lot of responsibility yet :) and last week, the ship was awarded the Battle "E" ...which is a big deal and all, and another ribbon for us all to wear.
anyway, enough talking about work. got an hdmi cable for the tv last night to go with the hd-dvr, and after watching an episode of firefly that was being broadcast, i watched some of the bourne supremacy, then some of matrix revolutions...i might actually start watching tv again, this stuff looked so good! AND! Heroes is broadcast in HD also! tomorrow pete, susie, and i are heading up to ikea to finally buy some furniture. the carpet is comfy and all, but it's a little hard on the back for extended sessions of Need For Speed Carbon. and susie is giving us some of the really nice leather chairs she had in her bookstore, which sucks because the only reason we're getting them is because she just lost the place and had to close up shop. at least we'll be able to put them to good use, but the reason we're getting them really blows.
well, i've procrastinated long enough. guess i better go put some light bulbs in.

bah

there seems to be no fix for my sound card issues. i'll have to use Inkarnate in silence it seems, for a while, at least.
C emailed me today, for reasons unknown. I can only guess that she was trying to make herself feel better about the utterly harsh way she dumped me. It's been two weeks of silence, and I was starting to feel better and forget about her, and then this comes along. She started by saying it seemed like her kids freaked me out and it didn't seem like I was ready for a whole family; but I'd already told her how it was a lot at first, but then I was ok with and even liked it, but why not bring that up with me instead of just dumping me without even talking about it? She's already shown me that I can't believe or trust her anymore, so what difference is an email going to make to me? I asked her as much and she dodged the question with another subject. So, essentially all she did was piss me off today with this...it's like picking at a wound that's already scabbed over, except nowhere near as fun.

At least petey picked up some scotch on the way home from work. And tomorrow we're going to get our HD-DVR from the cable guys, and hopefully our mailbox key so we can get our mail. And on sunday, we shoul dget some furniture for the place. It'll be nice to have somewhere to sit and watch tv or play Wii.
a vista

sooo...vista is turning out to be a little adventure. i could say it works fantabulously on the laptop, the only issue being one with firefox, that i'm suffering from even now, in that web pages and pictures and such will...vibrate up and down...it's...wierd. it doesn't do it with IE tho...i may switch back til firefox updates. oh, and there was a short-lived issue with iTunes, but i fixed that up and it seems to work fine now too. everything else that i've tried on it so far is pretty cool, although i haven't tried much, because i finally got it onto the desktop today as well. and then i found out that vista doesn't like creative labs' soundcards. everything else on Inkarnate is shiney, i just don't have sound anymore.
it's fairly aggravating to have a 5.1 THX surround system on a computer, and then have the new OS take it away.

anyway, i'm off to sleep in addition to responding to a security alert right before my watch, then having a Battle "E" ceremony for the ship today, then moving pallet trucks and ramps around before i finally got to leave at 3:30ish today. and when i got home, i started re-attempting to install vista on Inkarnate. i need to get my hands on some floppy disks tho, so i can update my RAID and SATA controllers before vista will let me install, apparently. so...i'm putting it on the Lappy instead. and in the meantime, i'm supposed to be trying to figure out wtf pete did to the surround sound on the new tv...dude, how the hell am i supposed to just magically figure out what you did to it while i was gone the last 30+ hours? i know he somehow fucked up the sound for all of the inputs, and the tv speakers aren't valentine's alone. like she has any right to complain about that. is that supposed to make me feel better?!?
also just checked and she replied to the myspace message, my thermals back here and was freezing my ass off on the trip up, standing outside behind the twin .50s, and i'll be back out there again on the trip back on friday. i didn't want to to do that again at all, even tho it means i need to hop in the shower soon and get my ass to bed so i can wake up at 4 to catch the 5am bus from norfolk base back to yorktown tomorrow. i'll fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow, tho, monday night we worked til 11pm, yesterday we worked til 8, and we had a full day today and will again tomorrow. so, my ass is beat. oh, and i won't be back on again til friday or saturday night. there's no interweb on the ship right now, and i won't be back here tomorrow night.
i picked up some taco bell on the way home, since i didn't have any time to make food, and hopped online. noticed the girl deleted me from her myspace, and that she had a new profile pic up. it's the same pic that i had asked her about a long time ago, her and some dude. and i asked her straight up if there was anything going on with him when i saw it and she told me no, there was nothing to worry about.
so, i did something uncharacteristic tonight.
i lashed out.
seeing that picture made me feel like i'd been playing the fool for a long time now, with her lying every time she said she loved me, every time she didn't pick up the phone, everything. on top of that, this guy looks like he's total white trash. he's probably got no future, and she's probably not the only girl he's fucking. so, i was very insulted to be dumped for someone like that (link to the pic has been provided so you can see for yourself). and i wrote her an angry message (it was the best option i have). i wasn't as mean as i could've been, i'm very good at being very mean when someone actually pisses me off.
it made me feel good. i think i can forgive myself for that.
anyway, time for bed.
toodles.<div while it seemed like i found someone i could trust...or at least someone who would respect me enough to tell me what's going on. but as soon as she sent me the email she stopped answering my calls.
all i want is some answes to a few questions so i can at least get some sense of closure, but i guess that's asking too much from her. which i frankly find ridiculous since she certainly didn't need to agree to try for a long distance relationship with me, and later told me that she was sure we'd have a wonderful life together someday, presumably when i can get out of the navy and move back home. i mean, wtf happened to make her go from saying she loved me one day to breaking up with me and not answering my calls literally the next day? this shit is tearing me up...it's making me feel sick to my stomach, and definitely fucking with my head.
gahh...how'm i supposed to deal with this and handle ammo next week? hopefully it'll take my mind off of i can't afford to be distracted, since i'm about to be putting in 13hr days in the deep mag for the next week.
on top of that, we'll probably get approved to move into the new apartment Petey and I are in a gym and i'm trying to get back into working out, so with that, and all the late (for us) hours the ship is putting me through, i think i've played about a half hour of bowling on wii sports in the last couple weeks.
well, we've gotta run and pick up our pizzas on our way to some friends to watch grey's anatomy tonight. i've seen about half an episode of the show, so i'm totally prepared to be enthralled. yep.

"borrowed" from aaron

As a result of Senate proposed force reductions and budget cuts the Department of the Navy has developed a program to reduce the number of active duty personnel. This program is under test phase and will be effective 1 AUGUST 2005. Under this new program, older Sailors will be asked to go on early retirement, thus permittting the retention of the younger Sailors who represent the future. Therefore, this program will phase out older sailors by the end of the current fiscal year. This initial phase of the program will be known as Sailors Late-Aged Program(SLAP). Sailors who are SLAPPED will be given the opportunity to look for jobs outside the Navy. SLAPPED sailors can request a review of their personnel records before actual retirement takes place. This phase of the program is called Survey of Capabilities of Retired Early Workers(SCREW). All Sailors who have been SLAPPED or SCREWED, may file an appeal with their chain of command final authority at the Personnel Command level. This is called Study by Higher Authority Following Termination (SHAFT).Under the terms of the new policy, a sailor may be SLAPPED once, SCREWED twice, but may be SHAFTED as many times as the Navy deems appropriate. If a Sailor follows the above procedures he/she will be entitled to get Half Earnings for Retired Personnel's Early Severance(HERPES) or Combined Lump-sum Assistance Payment (CLAP), unless he/she already has Additional Income>From Dependents or Spouse (AIDS)

As HERPES and CLAP are considered benefit plans, any sailor who has received HERPES or CLAP will no longer be SLAPPED or SCREWED by the Navy.

The Navy wishes to assure the younger Sailors who remain on board, that the Navy will continue its policy of training sailors through our Special High Intensity Training (SHIT). The Navy takes pride in the amount of SHIT our sailors receive. We have given our sailors more SHIT than anyother service. If any sailor feels they do not receive enough SHIT at their base, see your immediate supervisor.

THE NAVY'S SUPERVIORS ARE SPECIALLY TRAINED TO MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE ALL THE SHIT YOU CAN STAND.
WoW

that link just about sums up how it would feel to log in to WoW again...if they could even recover my characters now. *sigh* however, i *am* finding more time nowadays that i could be playing, if i weren't doing more productive things like going to the gym or...getting pete to find us a house. which he did tonight. yay!
so, i'm prolly moving soon. which means a call to the rents when i'm finally moved, to organize a trip to bring my stuff and see the place. and hopefully the base won't have any stupid rules and try to keep me here (my instructor forgot to find out today before the chiefs left), just because i'm technically a "junior sailor"...then i can get comrats for groceries and not have to keep eating galley food, which i suspect is the only reason i still have some weight to lose...think Commons, but with much less variety. quality is roughly the same, perhaps a skich better.
oh, so this place he found - got 4 beds, 2 baths, a better location (pete described it as in the "fu-fu" section of norfolk, which i got him to clarify - he meant "high class"...first time i've heard fu-fu mean high class tho), a deck out back (it's not a porch, but it'll do), and a basement. sounds good to me!
simply amazing

kinda hard to explain how i came about finding this...i was on howstuffworks looking at their tattoos article and noticed body jewelry in the google ads. well, i got my tongue repierced over the weekend and figured i'm gonna need a retainer for it sooner or later, so i clicked around and found one on this site (a lot of their stuff is super-cheap btw, hope it's still decent quality). well, i figured i'd see what else the site has to offer, since it apparently even sells piercing needles. so i started looking for stuff to put in the holes down under (i'm talking about the frenum piercings, you pervs ;) ), and couldn't find anything designated for that purpose and thought "maybe it's in the sex toys section?"...well, then i just got curious after seeing their categories, and stumbled across the product linked to above, and couldn't help but read their description, lol.
postal

my roommate here is kind of a douchebag. i mean, sure he's a 19yr old kid, but even so he should be able to figure out his laptop has more than one volume setting. y'know, something less than max. that, and he keeps the room a mess and sleeps all day. he's got night classes, i've got nights, but i go to bed sometime before midnight generally, while he stays up nuking pizza rolls and wasting time on the internet so he sleeps til about one in the afternoon. so, he's annoying.

class is pretty cool. about half the class is senior enlisted (well, by senior i mean e-5 and up even tho that's not typically the definition), including a chief, and everybody's pretty cool with everyone. we pt as a class and the chief even shows, and lead pt today, so we all suffer and hurt together (fyi if you need it - pt is physical training). actual class time so far is pretty long hours, but we've spent a good portion of it in the 'lab' getting our hands on the equipment. i'm not supposed to give too many details, but i can say that having speakers hooked up to play a recording of the gun firing when we hit the button on the console is pretty damn cool. can't wait to fire the real thing.

other than that, i spent last weekend meeting some of pete's friends and we looked at some places. pete's friends were all really cool, some of whom were hot (and married - doh!), and all were a lot of fun. they likely would've fit in real well at beloit, if i were to judge. they also introduced me to the music of The Postal Service, which i got offa iTunes and am now currently listening to for about the fifth time. it's pretty good stuff, especially for just chilling. so, we looked at some places, such as a decent two bed condo whose features included paid utilities and a notable lack of a porch on which to drink. luckily we later found a house that was being repainted and the painters let us in to look around. features - two floors, three beds, attic, basement, refinished hardwood floors, recarpeted attic, repainted walls, a fireplace in the living room, a yard in the back, and a nice porch. and, according to the painters, very affordable rent, especially if we get c (pete's neighbor) to move in with us.

time to go to bed. enjoy the update ( ^_^)/
*blam*

so, tomorrow/today i get to go and shoot a 9mm for my pistol ribbon. with any luck i should have no problem getting at least the ribbon, but i'm hoping to score at least "sharpshooter" or "expert" so that i'll get to put a little S or E on the ribbon and tell ppl that i can shoot their eyes out. we're even missing some class time for this, which i'm actually not happy about b/c we're supposed to go into the lab and familiarize ourselves with the gun console, and the test for this mod is a practical test, not written. so, fairly important that we know our way around the console, right? but i really want another ribbon, because that one little ribbon we have just looks stupid on our uniform by itself and i always forget it b/c it's just one ribbon, but we're still required to wear it. so, hopefully d.w. won't shoot us at the range, b/c our little group has been giving him a ton of shit every chance we get, and i think we're close to breaking the poor boy, heheheh.

more updates to follow, promise. sorry i've been lazy.
<img width='1' height='1' no traffic. w00t! (that was for sean :) ). it was also nice and cool for the most part, enough that i could keep the window down and the sunroof open and not be uncomfortable. tiredness wasn't really an issue, b/c i had slept til about noon, and also, *bonus* found my last can of red line (an energy drink that really works, there's warnings on the can about consuming more than half the can at a time :P ). so i drank that in about three doses throughout the night. worked well.
con - for a lot of the trip, i was going through places i'd seen for the first time, and it would've been nice to see them.
pro - the oil refineries in KY and WV look a LOT cooler at night when the fires stand out in stark contrast to the inky black blackness surrounding them. i imagined hell, and feel it was an accurate depiction.
and that's where i'll leave the story for now, b/c Battlestar Galactica is almost over, which means that pete and i (i'm at his place using his computer) are about to go out to start our fights with alcoholism. there'll be more when my roommate back at base lets me in on his router. esp b/c there's just about nothing to do on base at dam neck except go out to the beach or the gym. both of which i'll be exploring. soon.

i've changed...some

INTJ -The Mastermind
You scored 36% I to E, 47% N to S, 61% F to T, and 42% J to P!

You are more introverted than extroverted. You are more intuitive than
observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you
prefer to have a plan rather than leaving things to chance. Your type
is best described by the word "mastermind", which belongs to the larger
group called rationals. Only 1% of the population shares your type. You
are very strong willed and self-confident. You can hardly rest until
you have things settled. You will only adopt ideas and rules if they
make sense. You are a great brainstormer and often come up with
creative solutions to difficult problems. You are open to new concepts,
and often actively seek them out.

As a romantic partner, you can be both fascinating yet demanding. You
are not apt to express your emotions, leaving your partner wondering
where they are with you. You strongly dislike repeating yourself or
listening to the disorganized process of sorting through emotional
conflicts. You see your own commitments as self-evident and don't see
why you need to repeat something already expressed. You have the most
difficulty in admitting your vulnerabilities. You feel the most
appreciated when your partner admires the quality of your innovations
and when they listen respectfully to your ideas and advice. You need
plenty of quiet to explore your interests to the depth that gives you
satisfaction.

Your group summary: good after i buy back in, despite my severely short stack of chips, and the three other guys (one of whom bought back in at the same time i did, but he plays a lot). so it came down to me and one other guy, and i'm feeling pretty good about it, cuz hey, at worst i've lost $10 for a whole night at a game that i'm just learning. and i had the other guy scared for a while too. but i wound up losing the pot on a tough call. had two pair that got beat by his straight flush. *tsk* oh well...i still didn't do bad, and then we played halo2 teams and i had fun slaughtering him the rest of the night :D

so, today we're (MH and his wife) going out to the Casino Queen for some more fun. figure i'll try some blackjack, maybe some slots, i dunno. i'm only bringing the amount of money i'm being paid tomorrow for helping my brother in law stain a floor he's finishing (he's got a business laying hardwood floors), so at the worst i'll be breaking even.

it also looks like the plans for this weekend are still going thru, despite fate conspiring to keep my friends away from me! JH, and possibly his lady-friend, depending on the experiment she's working on, will still be coming out tomorrow afternoon from KC; and i'm still expecting the Moramarcos to to make an appearance. JH is also bringing me a gift from Thiel, from sometime last year (a nice bottle of grey goose, yum!). So,...i need to clean my room! living out of two duffelbags for two weeks makes a big mess, esp when my room has acquired a baby pen and swing sets that take up a good third of my room. bah!

back to the schedule...

alright, so the whore story is just about me whoring out the uniform. i wore it out to the baseball game with NM the other night, for no other reason to see how much stuff it'd get me :) horrible, right? yeah, sure, but why else would i wear it on leave? i mean, it is a little bit cooler than pants and a t-shirt, since it's all stark white and all that. and i do look pretty sharp in it. so we went out to dinner before the game (we had some of nick's friends with us) to some cajun place. it was very good. and no sooner had i ordered my first beer than the waitress came back and told me that my beer was being paid for by an older gent a couple tables down. *friggin sweet* after a couple minutes he raises his glass to me, and i raise mine back. and the meal goes on. nick's friends know a lot about baseball. i know nothing, really, and personally can't stand the game unless i'm actually at one. so, a little before we finish the guy comes over to tell me that he and his wife are getting over there early (almost everyone in the place was going to the game, i think), and he wanted to thank me for my service and hands me his raffle tickets (all the customers get raffle tickets for a chance at free baseball tickets). so i thank him for the three beers he bought me :)
on the way over to the game we passed a water vendor where me and nick stopped and got water, where mine got discounted and i was told i was the best-dressed guy out there. heheh. the rest of the night i just got a bunch of thank yous and compliments, lots of attention. felt pretty good. and bush stadium lets military in for free. so, yeah, i was just seeing how much i could get for looking good the other night...

an aside

Forwarded to me from a friend back on base...i thought it was pretty good.

We always hear "the rules" from the female side.
Now here are the rules from the male side. These are our rules!
Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up,
put it down. We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of
the tides. Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going
to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost
every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it.
That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem.
See a doctor.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an
argument. In fact, all comments become null and void
after 7 days..

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and
one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the
other one.

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how
you want it done. Not both. If you already know best
how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to
say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and
neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default
settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color.
Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will
act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is
just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question that you don't want an answer to,
expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything
you wear is fine...Really.

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are
prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun
formation, or monster trucks.

1. BUT, i graduated A school on tuesday with a 91.2 avg (a full 6 pts higher than the school avg, and about a month ahead of schedule, without failing any tests at all). So, i didn't get distinguished military grad like i wanted (stupid fluff mods with 5 question post-tests tend to lower one's avg, and in some peoples' cases, get them dropped from their school for failing them too many times). but, i did get honor grad, and had my graduation ceremony. i've been on BCS hold since weds (nobody knows what BCS stands for, but we decided it's Bitch Clean Something/Bitch Cleaning Service...stuff along those lines). but i get to take leave as of next weds, so i'm trying to get people to come out for a party. probably not next weekend, but the one after, which is the 6th i think. after a couple weeks home i go out to dam neck for C school, where pete has hopefully found us a nice place to live before i get there, and then report to my ship around 28dec. so hopefully i'll be home for christmas this year, instead of doing bunk drills in boot camp.

btw - Mr & Mrs Smith: excellent; Charlie & the Chocolate Factory: lotsa vinyl/latex, the oompa-loompas have gotten shorter, and squirrels are way better than gooses; Wedding Crashers: little more of a love story than i expected, but too busy laughing to notice the "almost-3-hour" mark; and Fantastic Four: "Do all his parts stretch?" mmm, Jessica Alba, and it could have been better but it was funny. that's it for Oz's Summer Movie Reviews.

i've still got more to post, don't worry. but it's one of those rare nap times.

[addition: i also spend too much damn money on iTunes]

stuff

so, got a little news...

like i mentioned before, i'm at the top of my class right now, being 14 days ahead with a 92.33 avg. my second lab, this one on the AN/SPA-25G display (it's sorta like a monitor unit that accepts input from a bunch of different search radars, and computes things like bearing and range to be displayed numerically on the screen), went well, altho i could've done better. i got docked 5pts for referencing the wrong part of my write-up. 5 seemed a little excessive to me, but it was an easy troubleshoot, so he prolly just needed to hit me somewhere, and i was testing on it a few days earlier than the alloted time. but my partner was driving me nuts...the only thing it seemed like he knew during the practice troubleshoots was to stay out of my way (and thankfully he at least got that right, altho he was still slowing me down with his questions). i was a little pissed about that, since during the troubleshooting brief we were told that we get to pick our partner, so i was lucky enough that the guy i partnered with for SPS lab was in at the same time as me, so we paired up again. but when the group stood paired up in line to start troubleshooting, the lab leader called me and the guy behind me to partner. fucking stupid - WHY would i stand in front of my partner?! especially since the first two people he called up were side by side (my intended partner and i were the second two in line).

anyway, it's done. and PO Indoctrination class is done. at least for me it is, since the dental appointment i had to cancel for last monday afternoon in order to go to POI is now rescheduled for the last day of POI on tuesday afternoon. but we signed our pg 13 entries yesterday and i told the petty officer in charge of indoc about the app't and he told me to go ahead and go. so, now as long as i graduate before the 15th, i'll be FC3 Osborne on the 16th. otherwise i wait another month. i want it, but that's gonna be pushing it real bad. Especially since i got to pick "C" school orders yesterday too! i didn't get tomahawks *boo, hiss* but that's only b/c there weren't any available. they had a choice between two AEGIS systems, the Mk 160 GFCS (Gun Fire Control System), and NSSMS (Nato Sea Sparrow Missile System). One of the AEGIS systems was actually one that i thought i wanted, up til i heard some more about it (like watchstanding for that job is 3-8hrs of staring at the radar screen and answering the phone - no thanks), but it offered automatic advancement to e-5. I still didn't take it, and instead went with the Mk 160 GFCS. the 160 is one of the systems that controls the 5-in. gun on the destroyers :D and i found out today that watchstanding for this job might be non-existent. they apparently used to use this big camera for lookout when on watch, but doing that burned them up pretty quick somehow, so they stopped b/c they cost like a million to replace. so this FC2 (who was a Mk 160 tech) also told us that he went thru two of these cameras the last time he was out to sea before they quit, and told us to expect to be playing playstation. frikkin' awesome. so...now, my C school doesn't class up til the 29th of august, and i'm trying to graduate by the 15th of july. i'm gonna be on hold for a while, it looks like, but at least i'll be able to take some leave, and pete's gonna start looking for places for us to rent, since i'm going to dam neck, VA.

hmm...think that's about it. i don't really wanna talk about the duty day, i'd rather just forget it happened now, but to sum it up - my duty section went to shit in just over a week. these shitheads weren't showing up for watch on time/at all, so the section mentor started punishing us. i love how these supposed leaders of ours get the people who actually show up to stuff and yell at us about the ones who don't, and give us half as much time as normal to eat, and make us stand in ranks while they bitch at us for hours. yeah, that's great leadership. jackasses.

today

today was the. most. fucked-up. duty day. to play WoW...and then i'll be happy. WoW seems to upset the delicate balance of radio signals in this barracks, throwing mine and the users on my router into total disarray. Even as i write this, my wireless card is disconnecting and attempting to reconnect...and it's really pissing me off. but i got the dvd drive working again, discovered some chunks missing out of the corner of my case, as well as what i need to open up when it comes time to upgrade RAM and processor. and the case leveled out too, through all of my twisting and prying, so no more wobble either.

the baseball game yesterday wound up being sorta cool...white sox trashed the royals, so it was a pretty quick game, and we were all out there in uniform. so when i went to go smoke or get some food, every time i did i wound up having someone come up and start talking to me; thanking me, saying how much they appreciate it, how they wish they were young enough to join, telling me about their family members who served, that kinda stuff...it was a little wierd. but cool too. even got felt up by a hotty walking by behind me. so there's some nice things about going out in uniform, even if it's one that i hate. and there was this bus full of little kids, yelling out to us after the game, "thank you for defending the country"...that was a little wierd too. i mean, we thought it was kinda funny too, because it was just the FC A schoolers at the game, and we all really won't be doing anything but school through the rest of the year...

and school update is something like this - i've got a 93 gpa right now after the two tests i took yesterday (getting a 95 and 100 on Displays & Indicators and Doppler Radar), putting me at 2nd highest in the class :) i'm also about 4 days ahead of schedule. both of these are really good, because they're the major considerations going into what order you get to pick orders for C school. on the stressful side of things tho, with all this time away from class this week (baseball game and a stupid pass in review ceremony this morning, both of which cut over half a day out of each day), i'm not quite far enough ahead to be where i want to be. see, to make petty officer 3rd class when i graduate i need to go through petty officer indoc, which classes up at the end of the month, this month's starting next monday, next one not til july 20-something. when i went to talk to the guy in charge of the class on tuesday, he told me he had me down for next month, and i told him i was trying to be finished by that time, so we wound up making a deal where if i could take the post-test on the mod that i just started today before monday, he'd take me into monday's class. so i've been going to night study and getting things done, and i'm going again tonight. except i don't wanna just get it done, since i'm already doing so well, i figure i might as well push for distinguished grad, so i need to make sure i don't just pass. busy busy busy...

and then pete is still around too, and we were gonna try to do something tomorrow night. i dunno if it'll work tho, but i hope so. then saturday there's the polish legion thing. i still don't have any real details on that, except that instead of my regularly-scheduled duty day, i'm gonna be going somewhere and eating and drinking polish stuff, and one of the BDOs (berthing duty officers) is going to be our group's DD for the night, so i guess we're expected to live it up. w00t!

to post

baseball game details, lappy details, and A school goings-on...also this weekend with the Polish Legion?

issues

alright...lotsa shit happening lately. But i finally got the net back friday afternoon! yay!

so...it's been a while. been REAL busy. started FireControl Technician (FC) "A" school the last time i posted. by the way, for those who didn't know, i originally thought i was going to be an Electronics Technician (ET) when i went to boot camp. but ETs and FCs are two job strands in the same Advanced Electronics Computer Field (AECF), and apparently i didn't get to choose past going into AECF when i signed up for 6 friggin years. actually, i'm happier being an FC, because no, i don't fight fires (those are damage control (DC) rates), but i get to blow shit up. FCs mission is "to put ordnance on target," or, in more colorful language "putting warheads on foreheads." plus, i still get almost the same amount of technical core training that ETs get, altho you can really only troubleshoot so many things before it starts to get boring.

speaking of that, i finished my first lab today. labs are five days long, including familiarization. the lab was on the SPS-64 surface search radar. so, i've got to play with some high voltage and see how PPI (Plan Position Indicator - the type of radar display you always see in movie) works. it's lots more interesting than ATT (Apprenticehip Technical Training - basically a course we had to go through for background electronics knowledge & college credits) was. I also found out tonight that i've got the third highest GPA in class, but the other two guys have already went through the next lab. so, right now i qualify for honor grad, since i've got over a 90 average, if i can get over 94 i can get distinguished grad, which'll help when it comes time to pick orders for "C" school. "C" school is essentially where i choose my specialization/weapon system. right now my first pick is to be a tomahawk missile tech, since there're schools for it in both VA and san diego, AND it'll give me Top Secret Clearance, AND automatic advancement to E-5 paygrade (making me an FC2 - a second-class petty officer; right now i'm getting automatic advancement to E-4, which'll make me an FC3). the school is also only 20 weeks long, which is half as much as some of them. but, the class in san diego starts august 8, and i haven't heard of any orders being cut for a tomahawk class in VA lately. if i get it, i might not get to take any leave before i have to report to class :(

in the meantime, i've also been dealing with adjusting to a new schedule; reveille is now at 0415, for no good reason that i can tell except that we've got to get to breakfast by 0500 if we're gonna eat before morning quarters at 0530 and the march to school (school starts at 0615 and lasts til 1215). oh, i'm also all the way up on the 6th deck, so i've got 6 flights of stairs to deal with anytime i need to go to my room. so, needless to say, i really hate little bullshit musters during duty days, especially when i've just gotten back to my room. on the plus side, it's cut down on my drinking some, since i don't relish the thought of six flights of stairs drunk. plus that whole waking up ass-early thing. so, i've been getting used to all that, and i had to put up with the cable lady being sick and taking forever to get my internet turned on in my new room. AND my tub doesn't drain, AND the light in the bathroom is out, so my roommate and i gotta do our business with the door open. ahhh, familiarity.

i've also been working on getting the tags on my car renewed. they expire at the end of the month, then my license expires on the 12th, so i've gotta renew that too. the problem with renewing my tags is that MO counts cars as liable for personal property tax, and my tax assessment form for the last 2 years has been sent to a previous address (my ap't in the city that i had for about 6 mos or so, which is even in a different county). so i just sent about $400 out last week that i was totally unprepared to part ways with. then my mom hits me with Dell bitching to her about being behind on the payments, since i never heard what the new amount i should be paying is, post-lappy, and hadn't updated my automatic payments online. so i've been paying, but not enough. there's another $200. fortunately, my brother pays me in 6 month increments for his line on my cell phone plan, which works out to right about $200, and it was time for him to pay up this month. so that's gonna be taken care of, but i'm broke. and tomorrow all the FCs in A school are being required to go to a White Sox game after the first couple hours of class. we're being taken there and getting in for free, but we've gotta wear our working whites, we've gotta buy our own food and drinks, AND we're not allowed to drink alcohol while we're there! (and it's not even a Cubs game) personally, i'd rather just spend the day in class. i don't like wearing my working whites, and i sure as hell don't wanna pay stadium prices for sustenance for a game i couldn't care less about.

fortunately, i escaped to milwaukee this weekend for A & B's Movie Night, where i was treated to foreign films of such calibre as Night of the Living Dorks (a German cult hit, i'm sure, and infinitely more my favorite over the Japanese "One Missed Call" despite the japanese girls and their enormous cell phones and totally not-closed ending). and let's not forget Bubba Ho-tep. that movie was wierd. or maybe i was too drunk. i also added to what's becoming known as The Infinite Ozzy Project. then i tried to stay up and watch the repeat of the adult swim block with nells, but i had (stupidly, in retrospect) drank a Jim & Coke that I.T. had made me after he was already liquored up and i was buzzed. then we went to a botanical garden, and i got good and fried out in the sun, since i had neither sunscreen nor a hat, but i got to see some purty flowers and we had applebees after with B serving us sweet, sweet alcohol. mmmm...unfortunately, i did have to get back to base at some point sunday, so i didn't get to stay and get sucked into a new episode of Family Guy. had to draw the line at staying a full simpsons episode longer than i'd intended.

there's a couple other things, like winning a pt day off on monday, but i'll post those later. so, for now, enjoy the uber-post! i'm sure i'm forgetting some other things...ooo like playing with Isis...but i gotta stop somewhere...

hrmph

well, after all that work i did yesterday, i get to move out to my next barracks today. fuckers. so, i'm prolly gonna be without the net for at least a few days. hopefully not a week or more. *grrr*

buddyfuckers

gawd...that was a day of HELL...at least it's over now. Now, it's on to A school, where i'll learn about RADAR and synchro/servos and motors and have 40,000V humming just inches away from me...

It's gonna rawk.

On a side note, does anyone read me anymore? I know i was bad about updating these last couple months, but i've been hella busy. Hopefully i'll have some afternoon time now to actually keep people updated (and yes, work on that Navy Glossary for y'all, i haven't forgotten i was gonna do it, even if i did forget the link to the easy coding for it)...

I've also been finding out about the FC C schools, and one of them offers push-button e5 (aka, automatic advancement to Petty Officer 2nd Class - i'm getting push-button e4 at the end of A school). It's even one that i'm pretty sure i'd be real interested in, since it's mostly RADAR-oriented. I better start banking some sperm now if i ever want kids, i guess...That school is also out in VA, as well as the AEGIS school, which is the other one I'm really interested in (also mostly RADAR-oriented).

Anyway, gotta get back to work. *sigh* i've got a headache, and it is my duty section...more on that later.

wedding

wow, that wedding was a blast. beautiful (and blushing, i do believe) bride, beautiful groom, beautiful day. surrounded by most (sadly, not all) of the best people i can think of, some of which i haven't seen in close to 6 or 7 years. THANK YOU matt & liz, and congratulations again :) (btw you guys, when you see that video, keep in mind that i'm real uncomfortable in front of a camera)

i'll try to play some more WoW, but i think i gave most/some of you a better idea of why i'm in absentia on the web these days. that might change after this week, since A school is in the morning...*crosses fingers*

wedding

alright, so it looks like i'm going to the wedding! yay!

wish i could remember who all i'm gonna see there...

matt & liz, i need directions to this place, and how much $$ i should bring and anything else and all that good stuff. i looked at the wedding blog, but i didn't find answers to those questions.

conveniently, catching up with ppl at the wedding will eliminate the need for me to post the last month or so on the blog! hoorah! ;)

for realz

really, i'm gonna post! i've GOT stuff to post, even...

i just really have been that busy. i tend to go out drinking during the week a little more now too...that doesn't really help my blog tho. IT (intensive training) is what it's called when you mess up and your commander makes you do the pushups, 8 counts, mountain climbers, whatever exercise they want, basically. now toss the A on there and it's Advanced and 100x shittier, cuz now you go over to the PT hall and have officers drilling you for two hours and they're a lot stricter, louder, meaner, everything...we started that night running in place, in formation (all the exercises were in formation, and if the formation got messed up, the exercise started over), and we had to make our knees almost touch our chests. that went on for a long time, and we did a lot of other stuff, but to summarize, our break in the middle of the two hours was to run two miles in 20 minutes, and i've NEVER hated jumping jacks so much in my life. we did probably over 400 after the run, b/c of the whole formation issue. we had 23 guys fail, some of whom went over to the emergency room that night (yours truly passed, even tho he had the fleet commander riding his ass esp hard since he'd heard i had an officer package in).

anyway, our division made history by being the first whole division to go to Captain's Mast for Non-Judicial Punishment. NJP is sorta what it sounds like - there's no real courtroom procedure, just you and the Captain (except in our case, where he punished us in four separate groups, and the people who didn't fess to anything had to stand at attention thru the whole Mast, which was about a 5hr process), and the Captain has all the power. he doesn't have to let you say anything in your defense if he doesn't want to, and really only has certain guidelines to follow for punishing people. that's about it. and it doesn't necessarily stop there, if you really fucked up, you can get NJP and still go to court-martial later for more punishment.

one guy, who was pretty much the ringleader of the card game, i guess he realized how much shit he was in, b/c he decided to go for a medical discharge. so late the night after getting busted, he had a friend go in the head with him and break his arm. he put his arm up on the urinal and the other guy kicked it and snapped it. then he splashed some water out of his canteen onto the floor, in front of a broken toilet, and claimed he slipped on it and broke his arm. so the ambulance came and took him away, and charges of malingering and maiming were added to their sheets.

so, a week later we were at mast. the really shitty part of it, other than knowing that i was getting in trouble, was that the thirty of us with charges had to pack up our seabags and wear our dress blues over to Mast. the dress blues are 100% wool. the avg weight of a packed seabag is something like 90-100lbs. and Mast was almost clear across the base.

which makes for a sweaty oz. but, we get there and wind up standing out in the hallway for a long time while various other people go through their masts, and this one IDIOT is still trying to coordinate a lie, thinking that it'll help get us out of trouble (re: the captain doesn't have to let us defend ourselves). so our four groups are standing out in the hall, and finally my group went in. oh yeah, our mast was being videotaped, i hear it was for educational purposes. and the captain, he asked us what we did, but i got the impression he wasn't listening and had made up his mind what to do anyway. so our group all got 30 days restriction to RTC, a half-month's pay taken, and one hour of liberty instead of the whole weekend after we graduate. in addition, our division wasn't allowed to carry our flags to graduation (which we didn't realize how bad that sucked until we practiced for grad, but it was lessened to not being able to carry the CNO or Battle E flags at the last minute - CNO is one step under a Hall of Fame division).

so, we were allowed to graduate on time, and we even earned the CNO and Battle E. and on battle stations night (the final graduating test where we basically prove that we've learned all the stuff we've been taught through a series of events lasting throughout the night) my team even set a new record on one of the events. the graduating ceremony was real cool, very stirring and patriotic and made me pretty proud of myself. there's actually two ceremonies, graduation - where we get our navy ballcaps and finally get to be called sailors instead of recruits, and pass-in-review, where we get dressed up and the parents come and see us stand at attention for a few hours while everyone marches and talks and stuff before we get liberty. my parents were there, and we pretty much just went and chilled in the van. my dad made some cookies for me and brought them, so i was eating those while talking to them and checking the 40 voicemails i had in my phone and looking over the last 2.5 mos worth of mail they brought for me.

a little over an hour later, i had my seabag on my back again, going over with the other guys to report for restriction...and that story'll come later.

really

an update this weekend. promise.

matt & liz & marcin...i think i wanna give tauren a chance. i've got a lvl4 hunter named Bulnek going, if you guys wanna try a horde/tauren party. why tauren? cuz they can have druids AND shamans :) hunter, druid, shaman...the more i think about it, the more i like the idea.

on the downside, i really only have a couple hours to play on any given night...not that i'm sitting around thinking you guys have all this free time, but...

it's been a while.

w00t.

somebody's ready to play some World of Warcraft.

except will anyone remember me??? i don't know. i'd like to think i was a memorable little boulder of a dwarf...

except this whole navy thing insists on interfering with my agenda. something must be done. many of you have heard the story of why i'm a little behind on my estimated return to the world, but some haven't, and for those deprived souls i'll have a story later. type='text'>boogy

well, i got up ass-early this morning to get downtown by 8am and meet up with this guy in the military building. once again, i miss my exit, but at least this time i corrected it early on and lost only a couple minutes. man, that exit is a pain in the ass. anyway, long story short, i wound up waiting for a while for this guy to get in, but it was worth it, cuz he's the FIRST guy that i've talked to who actually knew what the hell he was talking about! so i got everything sorted out before i left, including my updated signing bonus contracts (now $8000, and there's a rule that changed since i first signed that might let me get my job's bonus of another $6000, AND still get the college loan repayment!). waiting for the contracts took the longest time. grrr. an HOUR!

so, my stress is pretty much gone now. turns out they're going to go ahead and send up my officer application, and they WILL process it while i'm in basic, although it's not likely that it'll be finished going thru everyone before i'm out of basic. at any rate, i'm not worried about the officer thing anymore. i'll go enlisted and get training in an awesome job with high civilian $$$-potential. it's a little hard to explain everything here, but it's all good now. esp if i get that other $6k :)
bye bye

goodbye to peoplePC online...mutherfuckers won't let me stay connected for more than a few hours at a time. so, i went got the gear for a wireless network today. not just for that reason, but it's also kinda a xmas present for the parents. mostly my dad.

he went along with my mom getting satellite internet so he could listen to streaming music from the net, specific stations whose names i forget, and he wanted to be able to stream them out to the garage. so today i was walking around best buy to get xmas ideas, and saw the wireless media steamer that netgear has. perfect, right? well, i had to get the router to be able to use it (i'm not sure, but we might need to set up an access point to extend the range to the garage too). well, now i've got the router and the media station...why not get a wireless card for myself so i can enjoy faster internet? *sigh* now i've got a fuck-ton of rebates to fill out, b/c the prices weren't bad really, but i did spend quite a bit for how much i make.

on the bright side, now i won't have to spend days downloading patches for world of warcraft. that'll be nice. and dad'll be able to stream music from the internet and my mom's puter to the garage. so that should make him happy too.
happier news

better news - i finished my officer app and emailed it to the chief this week. he looked it over and told me it looks great, so i'm just waiting on my references to come back, and i'm good to go.

meaning, the officer 'package' will be sent to review, and my request to push back my ship date will be marked as high priority, increasing the odds that i can spend the holidays here. and have my new years party :)

in case you're interested, i get to choose three officer programs, and here they are in order of preference - intelligence (not sure what type yet, prolly something with language or tech), aviation maintenance duty officer, and naval flight officer. flight officer's not the same as a pilot, i found out, but it's still really cool and sounds like fun :)
well now...

so, last tues we got a new kid at work. he's pretty slow in the head, and in the body. and he acts like he's on drugs. kyle and i both agree on that, and the other guys in the shop all agree there's something not right about him. i even tell the boss that we can't keep this guy.

he's also the son of the used car sales manager, and got hired on as a favor.

tues of this week he leaves early.

first thing weds morning jon (the boss) tells kyle and i that brad won't be coming back b/c he got arrested tuesday night. kyle and i rejoice. and weds was good, b/c we lost him, and the guy that i *hate* so much i wound up intimidating him last week, is on vacation. i've been having a pretty good week.

today - the new guy comes back. before i even see him kyle tells me that he's back and jon's giving him a 15min. talking-to in the office, and that his dad posted bail last night and got jon to give him another shot as another favor.

i'm not happy about this. the kid comes to the back, we grill him, and he tells us how his roommate was apparently wired by the cops while he was buying pot and that's how he got busted, or some such crap. i don't really listen to him. it's not worth it. kyle also told me that his dad asked for the favor b/c brad still owes his dad money after he kicked him out. today the kid starts changing the radio kyle and i use to a classic rock station that i can't stand.

now, we have "for-cause" drug testing at work. generally we would get tested if we cause $500+ damage to something (which is disturbingly easy). but - it seems to me that missing a day of work b/c you're spending the day in jail for buying pot would be a good reason to test someone too.

he should stop messing with my radio.
hee hee

i dunno what made me think of this disc. i only ever heard one track from it, back last year when Woody and The Whipping Boy were still on the radio they would play it (the bonus track on disc1 - "I keed"). but it was hilarious, with the dog making fun of all these celebrities. i'm thinking about getting it, but then...maybe it should be a xmas gift for someone. i remember my brother-in-law really liked Triumph. i think my sister does too. maybe i'll be a little cheap and buy it for both of them. unless i can find a better gift for one or the other.

other than that, i've had a REALLY fucked up day today, that i'm not going into again, but nellie knows most of it already.
